System report
Sometimes, when we are trying to troubleshoot something, we may have to share details about our system with other people. Use this.
inxi -Fxz
The inxi -Fxz command provides a comprehensive overview of your computer’s hardware and software configuration. It’s a powerful tool for troubleshooting and for getting a detailed look at your system’s specs.
Breakdown of the Command
inxi: This is the main command, a powerful script used to generate a detailed report of system information.-F: This flag stands for Full output. It’s a shortcut that includes a wide range of information, such as system, CPU, graphics, sound, network, and disk drive details. Using this flag gives you a complete picture without having to specify individual flags for each component.-x: This flag adds extra information. It provides more detailed output for certain sections. For example, it might show more specific driver versions for your graphics card or more in-depth information about your network card.-z: This flag is for sanitized output. It’s a crucial security feature that “zaps” or removes sensitive information. This includes things like your MAC address, IP address, and home directory name. It’s a great habit to use this flag, especially if you plan on sharing the output online for troubleshooting.
In short, inxi -Fxz is the go-to command for a detailed, full-system report that is safe to share with others.
